Door Switch

This is a very common failure. On some washers you might need to remove it. It is easy to replace and inexpensive to fix. Read below or watch the videos on replacing and testing frontload washer door switch here.

The door switch is located on the inside of the front panel, two screws hold it in place. The switch latches the door shut. When the door latches it allow the washer to operate.

To remove the door switch. You will need to find the boot retaining spring at the six o'clock position. Using a screwdriver, you will need to pry the spring off the door seal, and grab with pliers removing the spring. Next carefully peel the seal off the flange of the front panel.

Now you have access to the door switch. Reach in and remove the two screws holding the door switch in place. Pull the switch out and disconnect the wiring harness

Set your multi-meter to ohms. Video on how to use a multimeter.
Then set to the 1K setting.
Connect leads to the bottom terminals of the switch for most Frigidaire, Electrolux, Kenmore and many others.
The reading should be around 1500 ohms; anything less you will need to replace the switch.
To reassemble start by connecting the wiring harness to the switch.
Then slide down into position and tighten the two screws replace the front control panel if that was removed by first putting in position and reinstalling three screws. Reinstall the bellow and spring.
Then push the dispenser into the opening fully engaging tabs.
Next put the top panel on by sliding forward ensuring latching tabs are engaged.
Reinstall the two screws in the rear of the machine.

Main Control Module / CCU

The main control unit is the circuit board located behind the console. If the door switch tests good the main control is usually the problem. Check all connections for a good tight fit. Use electrical cleaner to clean connectors. Take each connector off and inspect closely with a strong flashlight for corrosion. Take the plastic cover off and inspect the circuit board for burn marks. Refer to the tech sheet sometimes located on the main control or inside the cabinet. Find the 2 main power leads .Connect your multimeter. With the washer plugged in. You should have 120 volts going into the control. If you have 120 going in and the main control does not power up it has failed and you will need to replace the main control. This is easy.

Pull washer from wall to gain access to the back of the washer. Remove the 2 screws Grab top panel by sides with 2 hands and slide back and tilt up out of the way

This will give you access to the control panel mounting screws. Usually, 1 on each side.
